Our Story
The Eagle Heights Story has been one of incredible faith, impossible odds, amazing testimonies and a great God. It all began with a dream in the hearts of Pastor Jake and Ashley Claunch. A dream to start a church where anyone is welcome, everyone is accepted and no one remains the same. A dream where people from all walks of life young and old, churched and unchurched, denominational and non-denominational could come and feel comfortable, welcome and accepted, but also challenged to become more like Jesus. A dream to see peoples lives changed by the power of The Word of God and transformed through the blood of Jesus. A dream of a church full of strong marriages, friendships, and bonds that would last a lifetime.
This dream began to take shape when Pastor Jake and Ashley and their three children moved from a small southern Louisiana town to Memphis, TN. in July of 2008 to start Eagle Heights Memphis. It was a bold move, some would even call it crazy, as they left job, careers, family, friends, home, and the small town where they were both born and raised , to move to a place where they had only a few connections and friendships. They began holding small group Bible Study meetings in their home in September of 2008 with 5 people in attendance for the first meeting. The group quickly grew from 5 to 15 at which time they began holding a Sunday service in their living room. More folks came and they soon outgrew their living room and acquired a small building on Houston Levee Rd. in Cordova, TN that they re-modeled to seat roughly 50 people. The church officially opened its doors on February 15th 2009. The small building quickly began to fill up with new people and in less than a year the church began to search for a larger place to accommodate more people. In November of 2010 the church moved to its present location at 9551 Macon Rd. in Cordova. The new location provided a worship space to seat 150 people as well as 12,000 sq feet of additional space for future expansion. Once again, the church quickly grew as new people came and in just a few short months the new sanctuary was filled.
In October of 2011 just as plans were moving forward on a new worship center a seeming tragedy struck in the form of a five alarm fire that almost burned our building to the ground. However, as we have come to say at the church, “But God”. God took what was meant for our harm and turned it for our good. The church has grown even stronger and continues to grow. Our worship space was completely remodeled and a new worship space that will seat 500 people is currently under construction. We anticipate holding our first celebration service in our new sanctuary this Easter 2012.
Words could never fully articulate all of the amazing things that God has done over the last 3 years. We continue to be amazed at His unexplainable love, grace, mercy, and favor. We are excited about the incredible journey that we are on as a church and we know that these first three years are just the beginning. As you read this, it is our prayer and hope that you too will come join us and become a part of our church family. We look forward to seeing you soon.
